Three months of learning, innovation, and collaboration in industrial renovation
Three months of learning and collaboration
Last week, Drastic’s Estonian Demonstrator successfully concluded a comprehensive three-month training series dedicated to industrial renovation, hosted by project partners, TalTech and Timbeco.
The series brought together various industry professionals to explore the technical, economic, and sustainability aspects of modern renovation projects.
Throughout the programme, participants gained valuable insights into the entire renovation process.

Building a strong renovation foundation
Sessions began with a focus on industry best practices and discussing the characteristics of the existing Estonian building stock, as well as the important roles of consultants and housing associations in delivering successful projects.
The training then covered the essential surveys and assessments required before renovation begins, followed by sessions on the building physics of prefabricated insulation panels, design principles, and architectural solutions that support high-quality renovation outcomes.
Balancing performance, comfort and cost
As the series progressed, ventilation strategies, energy efficiency measures, renovation costs, and cost estimation methods were explored—equipping participants with the knowledge needed to balance performance, comfort, and financial feasibility.

Driving circular renovation solutions
Sustainability was a key theme throughout the programme. Participants received an overview of circular economy policies in Europe and Estonia and learned about practical circular solutions that can be integrated into renovation projects.
As part of this module, an interactive workshop with a focus on circular product development was delivered, helping to improve the circular renovation solution developed by Drastic's Estonian Demonstrator.
Considering the full building lifecycle
Additional sessions focused on fire safety requirements and long-term maintenance considerations, ensuring a holistic understanding of building performance throughout its lifecycle.

From theory to practice
To bring theory into practice, the training sessions concluded with factory and site visits, providing attendees with firsthand experience of innovative renovation solutions and their real-world implementation.
Drastic would like to extend sincere thanks to all trainers, experts, partners, and participants who contributed their expertise and enthusiasm to the series. The exchange of knowledge and practical experience made this programme a valuable platform for advancing renovation skills and supporting a more sustainable built environment.
