Design for reuse now: hands-on Nordic workshop in Tallinn
On 4 June 2026, partners from Drastic’s Nordic Demonstrator gathered at TalTech – Tallinn University of Technology in Tallinn, Estonia, for a project co-creation workshop focused on accelerating the transition towards circular and adaptable building systems.
A presentation made during the workshop.
Led by project partners TalTech, Omtre and Produktif, and organised in collaboration with United Village Global (UVG), the workshop brought together experts from architecture, engineering, manufacturing, digital technologies and circular construction to explore how innovative digital tools and methodologies can support Design for Assembly and Disassembly (DfAD), material reuse and multi-cycle building systems.
The event formed part of Drastic’s wider mission to advance circularity within the built environment by connecting research, industry expertise and practical implementation pathways.
Exploring digital tools for circular construction
The workshop featured a combination of technical presentations, hands-on demonstrations and collaborative discussions designed to connect innovations being developed within Drastic's Nordic Demonstrator with real-world applications.
Participants explored a range of topics relevant to the future of circular construction, including:
- Parametric design and mass-customisation for circular building systems
- Digital twins and lifecycle intelligence
- DfAD scoring and circularity assessment methodologies
- Material passports, traceability and data integration
- Reclaimed timber systems and reuse workflows
- Distributed manufacturing and circular value chains
Demonstrations and technical integration sessions highlighted how digital ecosystems can support more efficient assembly, disassembly, reuse and material tracking across multiple building life cycles.
Attendees of the co-creation workshop gathered for a group photo.
Connecting innovation with implementation
A key objective of the workshop was to create opportunities for knowledge exchange between project partners, technology developers, early adopters and industry stakeholders.
Through co-development discussions and practical demonstrations, participants examined how circular construction solutions can be implemented across a range of use cases, while identifying opportunities to strengthen collaboration across the built environment value chain.
The workshop also provided valuable feedback for technologies and methodologies being developed within the Nordic Demonstrator, helping partners to further refine approaches to circular design, lifecycle assessment and multi-cycle material use.

Advancing circular construction through collaboration
The event highlighted the importance of collaboration in delivering scalable circular solutions for the construction sector. By bringing together expertise from multiple disciplines, the workshop demonstrated how digital technologies, circular design principles and innovative business models can work together to support the transition from linear to circular construction practices.
Drastic would like to thank TalTech, Omtre, Produktif® and United Village Global, as well as all workshop contributors and participants, for their valuable insights, engagement and commitment to advancing circularity within the built environment.
As the project continues, lessons learned through workshops such as this will help support the development of practical, measurable and scalable solutions that can accelerate the adoption of circular construction practices across Europe.
